How do I know it’s going to be a kick-ass day? It’s simple, I prepared the night before. It sounds cliché, but it’s true. The evening routine, honestly, the evening rituals, they set the stage for the next morning. So if I’ve gone to bed at the right time, if I’ve had the water and I’ve read and journaled, if I’ve done those things the night before, the next day, I’m ready to kill it, ready to crush it.
Let me get a little more specific for you. When I wake up, one of the things I look forward to is a cup of coffee. I like the smell, I like the taste. If my coffee machine breaks, which it has on occasion, then you can say, “the day’s not gonna be as swell,” but what I’m trying to say here is that you reward yourself in the morning with things that you love, help set the day to be great. Starting the day with things that you love help make yourself great, help make your day great.
You ever tried on a new pair of socks? I love how comfortable they feel. You wanna start your day off great? Put on a brand new pair of socks. There’s a story I have, my grandmother said, “Jason what do you want for your birthday?” And I said, “Oh grandma nothing, just for you to give me a hug.” She says, “Oh no, no, I’ve gotta get you something for your birthday.” And I said, “how about, some new socks?” And she says, “Socks? You want socks your birthday?” I said, “Grandmother, that’s how I know I will have made it in life. It’s if I have a brand new pair of socks every day of the year.”
I’ll never forget how hard she laughed at that, but from that day forward, every year I got a package of brand new socks, until she passed of course, and then my mom carried on the tradition. So every year now, for my birthday or Christmas, I get a twelve pack of golden toe, white socks, cause I like to start my day off in the right way.
